The Challenge

Unilever's Latin America food business needed a new way to enable their teams to engage with and track progress with restaurants to grow product adoption.

How we leverage mobile to solve our problems? Can data & AI play a role in our future?

  1. Unilever leverage massive on the ground team members to work directly with the food service industry to inspire owners & drive product adoption. However, this ecosystem was almost completely untracked.

  2. Other technology drive solutions failed at adoption

  3. Ground teams used older phones and generally resisted adopting new things

  4. The food service department was facing significant pressure to grow revenue and had executive pressure to move quickly

The Solution

Rooted in a design thinking process and strong research, we uncovered unique opportunities to engage end users. From there, we built quickly.

  1. Undertook user research sprints and uncovered the key adoption challenge: ground teams were previously given product that were just too complex. It wasn't that they didn't want a solution, they just had to be simple in order to not make their jobs actually harder.

  2. We designed a simple, gamified UI in a mobile application that worked across any screen size and didn't require training.

  3. Leverage native features like cameras and geofencing to remove the need to file manual reports and provided milestones to reward ground teams for progress.

  4. Deployed native and PWAs through multiple production releases
